1. Clean from top to bottom.

Fall is the perfect time to get rid of summer dust buildup. Dust ceilings, ceiling fixtures, change drapes and clean windowsills and baseboards. You may want to update your window treatments by switching from lightweight curtains to heavier drapes.

2. Clean chimneys and fireplaces.

It is very important to clean up your fireplaces, especially your chimneys and make sure that it is free from creosote and other debris. Creosote is a residue that builds up on the inner walls of the chimney which can cause fires so it’s important to get rid of it.

3. Inspect your appliances and heating system.

You have to make sure that all your appliances are working properly. Have your water heaters checked and your drying venting systems cleaned. It would definitely be a nightmare if you find out that your heating system is not in good working condition while it’s negative degrees outside.

4. Edit your pantry.

Like any other part of the house, it’s also important to make sure that your pantry is prepared for winter. Fall is the perfect time to replace spices that are already old and no longer fragrant. It is also a good idea to stock up on your pantry staples such as flour and sugar. Toss away old and expired food and restock them with new ones.

5. Keep your patio furniture inside.

It’s important to move your yard furniture in the garage, especially those that are made from wicker, wood and iron to prevent damage from the impending harsh weather.

As with any home cleaning projects, the key is to clear away the clutter. You need to get rid of anything that you haven’t used or otherwise considered as junk. To make your cleanup systematic, it’s practical to hire a skip bin to store your summer garbage. Happy fall cleaning!
